Easter is more than a long weekend

Easter is more than a long weekend. Easter is more than the 40 days of Lent. Easter is an opportunity to experience the sacrificial love of Jesus every day of our lives. The Scriptures remind us of the fact that God’s mercies are new every morning, His steadfast lover never ceases.

 Lamentations 3:22-23 English Standard Version (ESV)

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;[a]
his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

This really means that we are able to have access to the death to sin and the freedom of forgiveness every day of our lives. It means that we experience the death of Christ and His resurrection daily.

I do not want to discount the importance of the Lenten journey, nor the experience of Holy Week, or the journey from the cross to the empty tomb.  But, I am reminded that this is more than a once-a-year experience. We don’t have to wait until next year to experience God’s grace and forgiveness. We don’t have to wait until next year to experience the power of the Resurrection, we don’t have to wait for next year to deal with our sin and our death. We can experience it every day. Forgiveness of sin – right now; the chance to start again – right now; the chance to live a life of resurrection power – right now; the chance to be overwhelmed by God’s grace and mercy – right now.

May this Easter be a time of loving renewal for you and yours. May it be a time of being overwhelmed by how much God loves you.

Grace, Peace and Love,
Gary Rivas
